Disasterpieces into Masterpieces

By now I think that most of us will have seen the hit Channel 4 show, Tattoo Fixers. The show consists of people from all over Britain coming to the pop up tattoo parlour to have their horrible tattoos covered up. Whether you love or hate the show there is no doubt that it both shows the negative side of cringe drunken tattoos to the more artistic side with the cover ups. From personally having a tattoo covered up I thoroughly enjoy this show and its fascinating to see the tattoos people get when they are in some serious conditions on nights out, mainly from holidays with their friends.

One of the artists from the show is Jay Hutton. He specialises in cover ups and also 'realism' in his work, whether it be from a portrait to a rose, he is definitely one of the most talented tattoo artists that I have ever seen on television. Ever since I watched tattoo fixers for the first time I was immediately hooked by his work. His ideas and the way he uses different techniques to cover tattoos is second to none.

A few of my favourite pieces by Jay are his portraits of, The Joker, Steven Gerrard, Mike Tyson and Tupac Shakur. The detail in these pieces are incredible and make them so realistic that you would think that it was someones photograph stuck onto their skin. From having two portraits myself I know exactly what to look for in these pieces so that they do not look "cartoonised" and more realistic. An instagram post of these tattoos will be included at the bottom of these posts.

Jay runs his own tattoo parlour, Adrenaline Tattoo Studio, based in Ellesmere port, Chestershire. As you can probably tell he has a very extensive waiting list due to the quality of his work, namely his full sleeves and also his cover ups as previously mentioned, when talking about the disasters that he has seen over the years he mentioned “I see shocking tattoos on a daily basis, but filming Tattoo Fixers just took it to another level,”.  A piece which caught my eye is an Iron man portrait that he has completed. The use of different textures in the whole piece is what makes it look so real and the line work on the helmet makes it bold and really stand out. From being a big fan of portraits I absolutely love these type of pieces and hope to see many more!

If you have the time, patience and the money to be tattooed by Jay or you have the luck of getting on the tattoo fixers show I would most definitely recommend him, he seems like is one of the best in the business and hopefully one day he can complete one of my tattoos.

Here are the tattoos that I was raving about and the quality speaks for itself.
